The greatest legacy one can pass on to one's children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of healthy body, mind, and character. Children’s health is becoming a matter of concern globally. According to a WHO report, 71% of boys and 76% of girls in the age group of 11-16 years in India are physically inactive. School children in India, irrespective of age group and gender, are lagging far behind as far as health and fitness levels are concerned. .
Obese children tend to fall prey to lifestyle diseases to the extent of 60-70% when they reach their 30s and 40s (the most productive years of their lives). Being the second most populated country in the world, the situation is alarming in India. A study published in Pediatric Obesity predicts that India will have about 17 million obese children by 2025. Another study shows that about 97,000 children in India suffer from type 1 diabetes.
Children aged 5 to 15 need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous-intensity physical workouts to strengthen their muscles every day. experts have noticed that the physical education programs being pursued by the schools in India are either obsolete or inadequate. Kids Fitness is clinically designed to bring charismatic interest among kids & teenagers (age group of 5-14 years) and to create awareness among their parents towards physical and mental fitness.
The subject of mental health doesn’t get much attention in India. In India, most children with mental health disorders are not even diagnosed and are hesitant in getting counsel and asking for help or treatment, and losing their confidence. According to the Indian Journal of Psychiatry in 2019, even before covid 19, more than 50 million children in India were affected with mental health issues; 80 – 90 percent had not gotten any treatment or counseling.
It is very necessary for kids of 5 to 15 to lead a healthy lifestyle including eating healthy nutritious diets, doing adequate physical activity, getting enough sleep, and not spending hours of screen time. A healthy nutritious diet and adequate exercise are very important in preventing a large number of diseases like obesity and diabetes.
Kids/teenagers of the age group of 5-6yrs to 14-15yrs are required proper attention on their physical and mental health as this is the best age to bring physical and mental health fitness and awareness which can last for a lifetime. “Kids Fitness Festival” will be one of its kind to create the required awareness among the children and their parents about the importance of physical & mental health.
